Let’s just get this out in the open: it’s widely recognized that WordPress businesses will make your political campaign. It’s true. Associate yourself with that magic W and your path to re-election is set.
Okay, those things I said are not true. Just likely. What’s very true is that the Lieutenant Governor of Oklahoma Todd Lamb visited the iThemes offices last week, since iThemes was founded and currently operates in Oklahoma City. While Lamb was there, CEO Cory Miller explained to him just what they do at iThemes.
Lamb was appointed by the Oklahoma governor as the “small business advocate” for the state, so visiting iThemes was a part of that role. For Miller’s part, he is very interested in developing his home state’s tech startup reputation as evidenced by his Silicon Pasture talk at SXSW.
As WordPress businesses get larger, they will undoubtedly have an impact on the small business ecosystems around them. Are you seeing anything similar for WordPress businesses in your city?

Page.ly has released an infographic that illustrates the theme usage across the thousands of their hosted WordPress sites. A number of interesting stats jump out:
- 37% of Page.ly hosted sites use a theme unique to that site
- 14.35% of Page.ly hosted sites use the Twenty Ten theme
- 11.89% of Page.ly hosted sites are using the Genesis theme
These stats don’t include Page.ly’s reseller or partner sites.
You can view the full Page.ly theme stat sheet on their blog. Do any of the stats surprise you? Do you think many of their Twenty Ten users will be switching to Twenty Eleven when it comes out with WordPress 3.2 soon?

Today’s plugin was recommended to me by a WPCandy reader on Twitter. It turns out WPCandy wasn’t taking advantage of Facebook the way it should have, and with a quick plugin addition the problem was solved.
The plugin is WP-OGP, from developer David Miller, and it might just help you if you face a similar problem.
WP-OGP
WP-OGP is a plugin developed by David Miller that, very simply, makes your blog look much nicer when it’s shared on Facebook. It uses the Facebook Open Graph Protocol to add the meta tags to your post pages so they, for instance, use the correct thumbnail images when shared in Facebook.
The most comprehensive way to test for the presence of the proper OGP tags on your website is the URL Linter, available via the Facebook developer tools. Simply give the linter a URL and it will give you feedback, much like an HTML or CSS validator.
Does your blog already look nice in Facebook? Do you use WP-OGP, or something else?
Video recorded with version 1.0.5 of WP-OGP, running WordPress 3.1.3.
Is your plugin worthy?
If you would like to see your plugin featured on an episode of The Daily Plugin, send your plugin information over to dailyplugin@wpcandy.com. We’ll see you tomorrow for another Daily Plugin!
