WordPress.com becomes PCMag’s Editor’s Choice blogging platform

WordPress.com was reviewed by Jill Duffy, a Junior Analyst at PCMag, awarding it the Editor’s Choice blogging platform with a score of 4.5 out of 5. Tumblr and Posterous were also reviewed there, receiving a 3 out of 5 and a 3.5 out of five, respectively.

Duffy wrapped up the review by advising complete blogging beginners to try out Posterous before WordPress.com:

My honeymoon with WordPress.com has ended, but I’m still completely sold on the platform. WordPress.com is PCMag’s Editors’ Choice blogging platform because it’s ideal for bloggers at all levels of experience, provided they’re willing to invest a little time upfront to learn the ins and outs of the system. If you’re on the fence about blogging and want to try it out for a while before committing to it, Posterous might be more your speed. But head on over to WordPress.com the day you feel held back by Posterous’ limitations…

Duffy’s comments focus on WordPress.com, but many of them carry over to the open source project development itself as well. The review is three click-to-increase-views pages long, but it’s also an interesting commentary on the state of blogging platforms today.

Have you tried other blogging platforms in the last year or so? What do you think are WordPress’ greatest struggle and weakness?
